These types of reviews always shine brighter than talking about the album as a whole, because, frankly, a machine is only as good as its parts.  Calvin 2.0 also uses some interesting vocabulary such as describing the chorus in “Blur” as “the beat sounds like what the noise of a disastrous foggy night out would be,” – that’s something you don’t hear a lot in hip-hop reviews, very cool.

Also, bonus points for this being Calvin’s first Tech N9ne album, welcome to the world of Strange!

The Hostile Takeover 2012 Tour jumped off with a bang, and Tech N9ne has once again solidified his reputation as Kansas City’s finest with his performance on March 24, 2012 at the Midland Theatre.

Notoriously tough critic Bill Brownlee had much praise for the show in his latest review entitled “Riot Maker: Tech N9ne In Top Form At Midland”.

One of the main points of the review was not only how much bigger Tech’s reach is getting, but how much younger his fans are getting as well. Bill cites that a third in the audience of 3,000-plus were teenagers, but this is undoubtedly also due to the fact that Machine Gun Kelly is on the tour as well, who has a great draw with younger audiences.

Bill Brownlee also cited the performance of Tech N9ne’s “Unfair” with Krizz Kaliko and CES Cru as the evening’s highlight and said that the new video-enhanced set was a “significant upgrade” over previous designs.

RapReviews.com is the latest website to put the album to the test and break down the collaboration formula.  Taking note of Krizz Kaliko’s performance on the album, the review states:

“This also serves as the newcomer’s introduction to Krizz Kaliko himself and his presence is heavily felt on this album, either rapping or singing on most of the fifteen songs on display here. As I listened to this album, I became more and more impressed with Kaliko, none more so than on ‘Unfair’ where among the company of Tech and fellow Kansas City spitters Ces Cru, he delivers arguably the strongest verse on a lyrically airtight track.”

With a total rating of 7.5/10, the review highlights the very best inside Strangeland.  Like the review states, “It has never been a better time to take a visit to Strangeland.”

Boombox.com just listed All 6′s and 7′s as the ninth best release of 2011. Tech shares company with Drake, Lil Wayne, Jay-Z, Kanye West, and Beyonce to name a few. On All 6′s and 7′s, The Boombox writes:

“Known for his often-disturbing lyrical imagery, which coined him the title ‘King of Darkness,’ ‘All 6′s and 7′s’ — as Tech N9ne puts — sheds ‘some light with the dark,’ thanks to tracks like ‘I Love Music’ and the upbeat, Busta Rhymes-featured ‘Worldwide Choppers’. The glowing review starts with a paragraph as to what separates the mainstream rap business from Strange Music. One is an “insider’s club” that turns the masses into zombies that lust for VIP rooms, fast cars, and a ridiculous lifestyle that is lived only by few. Strange Music on the other hand appeals to the other side, the real side, to those that:

“don’t give a f**k about getting into that exclusive club, they’d rather party in the alley. They don’t want to hear raps about fantasy lives, they want to hear raps about the complex and often painful lives they’re living right now, and they come in every ethnicity and nationality on the globe.”

After the appeal of Tech N9ne is explained so eloquently, the review goes on to highlight Welcome to Strangeland, citing “Bang Out”, “Unfair”, and especially “The Noose” as standout tracks. To DJBooth.net, this is an album not to be missed by those living in Strangeland.

The latest Collabos album from Tech N9ne has proven the strength behind Strange Music’s roster. Filled with hits like “Who Do I Catch” and “Kocky”, the album serves as Tech’s platform to launch beyond the stars. The web has been buzzing since the album’s release just a week ago.  HipHopDX.com put the album’s consistency to the test with a brand new review.  Rating it a 4/5, the review praises the album’s ability to transcend just music:

“It’s impossible to not connect with Tech’s perspective, because his visceral commentary and bombastic array of styles and cadences are always rooted in the real. That’s been the case throughout his decade of underground dominance and absolutely lifts the best parts of WTS.”

There’s no denying the powerful music that built the walls of Strangeland.  With everyone stopping in for a visit, it looks like Tech N9ne will be expanding the world he created.

When Tech N9ne arrived in Tucson, he didn’t just bring fans a hip hop show, he brought them the ultimate Strange Music party.  The Lost Cities Tour, which features Flawless, Jay Rock, Krizz Kaliko, and Kutt Calhoun, took over the Rialto Theatre in Tucson for a night of explosive performances.  Jason Krell of DailyWildcat.com attended the spectacle and watched in awe as the hardest working man in hip hop put on a one of a kind show for his loyal fans.  Reviewing the show, Jason wrote:

“It’s obvious Tech knows how to put on a show. His label, Strange Music, is overflowing with talent and his technicians — a nickname for his fans — are some of the most dedicated followers in music.  What it boils down to, in the end, is that if you are just now discovering your fandom of Tech N9ne, you’re about 13 years too late to the party.”

Tech N9ne has been around more than a decade, and gone platinum without a major label. He’s been touring on and off since May in support of his last album All 6′s and 7′s, which was #4 on the Billboard Top 200. He’s on Tha Carter IV. Not exactly a lightweight.

In fact, he’s got another album, Welcome to Strangeland coming out on Nov. 8, his 40th birthday. But he still performs like a beast, and his sold-out show at The Roxy showcased his skills as a live performer.

From the beginning acts with ¡Mayday! to Kutt Calhoun to Tech N9ne himself, fans and journalists are raving about how impressive this show is becoming.

The Silver Tongue contributor Travis Phillips published a review from the July 27th show in Atlanta, and needless to say, the author of this piece was more than impressed.

“I honestly couldn’t tell you a single song that ¡Mayday! performed,with that said, they put on a amazing show. It didn’t feel like a rock set, more like hip-hop with an amazing live band. The crowd was completely hypnotized by the insane energy, hands being thrown in the air, everyone on their feet, and yet no one was reciting a single word.”

Phillips also expresses his feelings when Tech N9ne finally stepped out onto the stage.

“So with expectations high Tech N9ne finally appears on stage. The thunderous roar of yells, applauds, screams, and even squeals  were let out. I’ve never seen anything like it.”
