On July 20, 2012, the nation’s attention turned to the city of Aurora, Colorado as tragedy struck late in the night. During a midnight viewing of the highly-anticipated film, The Dark Knight Rises, a lone gunman entered theater no. 9 inside the Century 16 multiplex and opened fire on an unsuspecting audience. 

The suspect was apprehended by police outside of the theater minutes after the shooting, but not before killing 12 and injuring 58 others. The shooting left an entire country in mourning as fear also began to spread.

The thought of  a larger-than-life hero appearing on the big screen while innocent people suffered was enough to make anyone feel helpless. 

That same helpless feeling could be the reason why Tech N9ne felt a need to speak out for the victims and families of Aurora, CO with “Fire In AC” from his Boiling Point EP. The collaboration that includes Krizz Kaliko and Smackola of Dirty Wormz takes vengeance for the victims of the shooting and offers its deepest condolences to the families still mourning.

With Colorado known for being the biggest area of support for Strange Music, Tech N9ne penned a tribute to those fallen and expressed his anger with the individual responsible for such a despicable act.

“Excuse me, I’ve got this cold, I just got back from Canada”, says Tech N9ne as he takes a moment to clear his throat in between sentences. His overall tone bears a striking resemblance to the one fans heard on the “Choking From It” intro to 2010′s Seepage EP. Perhaps rightfully so considering the subject matter we have on the table this day.

 Having just wrapped his Canadian tour with Krizz Kaliko and Madchild, Tech N9ne speaks to us during a short break from the studio, showing some signs of wear on his voice.  It’s nearing Halloween season – Tech’s favorite time of the year, and for fans eagerly awaiting more from the King Of Darkness, it marks the road to Boiling Point. 

“Darker” is how Boiling Point has been billed, and as the second half of E.B.A.H., Boiling Point promises to give fans another glimpse into the nightmarish mind of Tech N9ne. 

Tech’s demeanor over the phone says it all. This is a darkness like we’ve never heard before. A very real, very frightening darkness.

From the days of running up to the Wake Up Show to drop freestyles to their most recent meeting on The RICANstruction, Tech N9ne and Chino XL have maintained a mutual respect over the years that goes deeper than music.

Beloved for their raw lyricism, both emcees have accumulated strong followings within the indie circuit and have continued to excel in a class all their own. It was only a matter of time then before Chino XL called upon Tech for the gritty and downright lyrical beatdown that is “Hell Song”.

Just after the release of The RICANstruction, Chino XL joined us live on Strange Music Podcast to discuss the album and his long career in music. In this interview segment, Chino XL recalled putting together “Hell Song” and expressed his admiration for the Kansas City King.

It’s no secret that when Tech N9ne gets excited over a particular act, he gets REALLY excited. The Strange Music general is certainly not shy about the elite emcees he cosigns, but perhaps no recent stamp of approval has brought more attention than that of Kansas City’s own JL of B. Hood.
