Tech N9ne got some reality show airtime with a song placement on the hit MTV reality show Washington Heights.

Washington Heights traces the lives of nine young adults in the Washington Heights neighborhood of New York City. The show has garnered acclaim for being tracing the lives of 20-somethings without resorting to the trashy drama that took up the most part of shows like Jersey Shore.

Tech N9ne’s song “Don’t Tweet This” made an appearance in Episode 10.

With the recent surge of gun violence in America, the entire country is on edge for a solution. When children and innocent theater goers are needlessly slaughtered, what then? What the problem, is it the people or easy access to guns? Who’s to blame: parents, music, television, or the mental health system?

As part of their “Guns In America” initiative, an attempt to investigate the firearms issue that has recently been plaguing our country, AOL interviewed none other than Tech N9ne to get his opinion on the matter.

A thoughtful and reflective Tech intelligently dissects what causes our nation’s malaise of gun violence and why we are stuck in a deadly cycle:

“You have to protect yourself from people because you never know when it’s going to go down. You want to go see Batman and some n—a come running in and starts shooting. You’re not expecting that. If I would have been in there, I’d have had my piece and been shooting back at that n—a. You never know where it’s going to come from so, n—a’s is getting guns illegally. I think it’s fucked up because it’s a trap. They’ll put us in jail if we get caught with it but what can you do if you’ve already been in trouble and you’ve still got to protect yourself out here.”

While in the Middle East, Tech N9ne spent quality time with the troops that included meet and greets and intimate performances of his biggest hits.  With the successful USO tour wrapped up, Tech N9ne released a new statement on his experience with the US troops:

“What affected me the most about my visit to the Middle East was how amazingly pleasant and humble those who are serving our country were, even while under some of the [roughest] and most secluded living conditions imaginable,” he explained. “They showed my crew and I the most love imaginable for coming and giving them a piece of the USA, and that’s exactly what we did. I told them every night that I would go into the middle of a war zone to show my appreciation for their bravery.”

Reflecting on the significance of his visit, Tech N9ne made it clear that both he and the troops will forever remember the trip to the Middle East.

Following several nominations in DJBooth.net‘s “Best Of The Booth” 2011, Tech N9ne has officially been awarded Best Hip Hop Album Of 2011 (Independent/Unsigned) for All 6′s And 7′s and Best Hip Hop Record Of 2011 (Independent/Unsigned) for “Worldwide Choppers”.  Nominated along with names like Mac Miller and Kendrick Lamar, Tech N9ne was voted into the top honors by  fans all over the web.  With two more awards to add to the list, Tech N9ne certainly laid his claim to elite emcee in 2011.

Looking back at 2011, Rap Radar recently kicked off their ’11 Underrated Albums with Tech N9ne’s All 6′s And 7′s at #5.  Giving Tech credit for his risk taking, Rap Radar wrote:

“Tech N9ne rose from underground obscurity to mainstream consciousness last year with his 13^th solo album, All 6’s And 7’s. He took a gamble with his brand and collaborated with household names like, Lil Wayne (“Fuck Food”), B.o.B. (“Am I Psycho”), and Busta Rhymes (“World Wide Choppers”). He also took care of business on his own (“He’s A Mental Giant” ,“Strangeland”). No matter where you place him, Tech can’t be confined. You can bet on that.”

Placed among the year’s best, Tech N9ne’s All 6′s And 7′s continues to boast its status as one of the biggest albums of his career. Underrated or not, Tech N9ne is aiming for another stellar year in 2012.

2011 was the year that Tech N9ne broke through to the industry, but it may also be remembered as the year that Tech N9ne finally clicked with music critics everywhere.

After becoming HipHopDX‘s Emcee Of The Year and finding himself on every major top 10 list in 2011, Tech N9ne is now becoming a popular pick for staff members of several online entertainment outlets.  The latest “best of” list comes from 411Mania.com with their 411 Staff Music Picks Of 2011.  Various staff members for the site compiled their top 10 albums of 2011.  Many of the usual suspects were on the lists, including Watch The Throne, Adele, and The Black Keys.  For staff member Tony Acero, 2011′s best included Tech N9ne’s All 6′s And 7′s, which he praised with:

“Truly, his content is as scattershot as his rapping and there’s not a damned thing wrong with that. His ability to flow coherently, consistently, and rapidly is so hard to do. Seriously, just ask Twista. While the ability to spit faster than a 13 year old’s first time is impressive, there is something more needed to be on a list such as this. Lyrics and content go hand in hand, and sometimes all I ask for is for the person in question to make sense. The last thing I want as a listener is to hear people throwing words around simply because they rhyme. Tech can easily go this route, considering the excessive speed he lays his lines down, but he refuses to do so and I can do nothing but appreciate this.”

With All 6′s And 7′s going on to become such a hit record, it’s hard to argue that it wasn’t one of the best releases in 2011.  Now that critics are glued to Tech N9ne’s sound, 2012 may prove to give the mental giant even more notoriety.

Even a new calendar is not enough to keep people from praising Tech N9ne’s incredible success in 2011.  With so many great releases in the last year, the HipHopDX staff compiled their list of Top Hip Hop Songs In 2011.

From the Editor-In-Chief to the Production Assistant at HipHopDX.com, several of the staff members gave readers their top 10 lists.  With names like B.o.B, Kendrick Lamar, and Drake included in the top picks, the lists span nearly every major release of 2011.  Making the cut was none other than Tech N9ne with “Am I A Psycho?” from All 6′s And 7′s and “Interlude” from Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter IV.  Readers may recall that Tech N9ne landed top honors by being named HipHopDX’s Emcee Of The Year.  After finding a spot on nearly every top 10 list of the year, it’s no surprise to see Tech N9ne still appearing alongside the best in the game.
