As 2013 rolls on, fans on the web continue to push rumors and speculation as to just who Tech N9ne will link up with next for his Something Else LP. From alternative rock heavyweights to rap’s elite, it seems like no one is off limits in the discussion.

With the recent release of their Random Access Memories album, house music icons Daft Punk find themselves at the top of the music world once again, and with all of the current attention centered on the legendary beatsmiths, we wonder – what would happen if Tecca Nina met the robotic duo on wax?

Dating back to their first outing as Daft Punk on “The New Wave” to their most recent full-length project, the French duo of Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter has always pushed for innovation and originality. Daft Punk’s influence can be spotted all around the music world and pop culture in general.

From Kanye West’s “Stronger” to Busta Rhymes’ “Touch It”, Daft Punk’s signature sound has been sampled countless times – even Strange Music’s own ¡MAYDAY! got in on the action by going over “Robot Rock”. So if hip hop loves Daft so damn much, why haven’t we gotten a Tech N9ne and Daft Punk collabo? We don’t know quite frankly, but we do know we want it.

On Random Access Memories, Daft Punk upped the ante and relied heavily on live instrumentation to craft a funky mix of dance hits and futuristic compositions, breathing fresh life into the duo’s catalog. If that sounds like someone else you know, it might be because since his inspiration from Kanye’s MBDTF, Tech N9ne has sought the same re-invention in his sound.

At opposite ends of musical genres, Tech N9ne and Daft Punk have one more thing in common – their incredibly badass live performances. Hailed for his explosive stage presence, Tech has been deemed time and time again to have the best live show in hip hop. Likewise, Daft Punk may very well lay claim to the best damn show in electronic and house music. Don’t believe us? Peep the video below.

The question is, just how would these two musical powerhouses meet? Some may suggest Daft Punk put a new spin on a Tech N9ne classic. We’d like to think a Tech N9ne appearance on a Daft record would be the most appropriate way to go. Can you imagine the Kansas City King hurling lighting-fast syllables during a signature Daft Punk build-up? Yep, there’s every reason in the world to get excited about the possibilities.

Whether or not we ever get this is anyone’s guess, but with Strange Music’s general expanding his horizons each and every time out, it may soon be time for fans to get a taste of  Tech N9ne x Daft Punk.

This weekend, Tech N9ne and Strange Music join some of hip hop’s biggest names in Shakopee, MN for Soundset 2013. The massive music festival, presented by Rhymesayers Ent., brings together fans from all corners hip hop for a day of live performances featuring the likes of Atmosphere, Snoop Dogg, Busta Rhymes, Schoolboy Q, R.A. The Rugged Man, and more.

With his sights set on conquering Soundset 2013, we spoke with the Kansas City King himself and got a better perspective on what it’s like to get so much love in Minnesota.

You’re about to hit Soundset 2013 for a live performance. This is kind of a different crowd for you, isn’t it? 

There’s not one kind of crowd that I haven’t had yet. I’ve had the rock n’ roll crowd, I’ve had the backpack crowd, I’ve had the Juggalos, I’ve had the metalheads – I’ve had it all. I get to be reunited with my brothers Snoop Dogg and Busta Rhymes. If there are non-believers there, then we treat it like we would Paid Dues or Rock The Bells – murder, just like we do every crowd, even if they don’t like rap.

What do you think it is about Minneapolis or Minnesota in general that makes it such a hot spot for you guys?

Technicians are tied together, as one mind, body, and soul – everywhere. If you ever go Amsterdam, you’ll see it’s the same. If you go to Denmark, you’ll see it’s even bigger. If you go to Germany, you’ll see it’s even bigger. It’s happening everywhere. It’s growing, it’s inevitable. With Minnesota, they’re closer to home and they been on me since day one. Just like Denver, Seattle, and Chicago. It’s tied together as one mind, body, and soul all over the world, man. It’s inevitable. It keeps blossoming. Minnesota has always had love for me. I got signed with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis outta there in ’93. Flyte Tyme was outta Minneapolis, you know, so I used to go back and forth to their workshops and everything. I’ve been deep rooted there for years. Just like we did with Denver, we’ve been doing that with Minnesota.

That’s why fans were on Twitter like, “We don’t have no Minneapolis show?!”, before they found out about Soundset. That’s because it’s tradition for them to come out and show love, and for us to give love back with our energy. They found out there wasn’t a tour date, they felt like , “What about all the love we give you and you don’t give us the same love or give us this tour?” Nah, we had to make a choice. Either play the date or play Soundset. Soundset was supposed to be more people and we like to infect the masses, so we took Soundset. We love Minneapolis – all of Minnesota.

 The love out there is big. I remember they had you going head to head with Atmosphere once on the radio or something, right?

We didn’t go head to head. It was the people that went head to head and they said I won on a radio station. We’ve done shows together and everything. We did the first Paid Dues together, so I never go head to head with anybody. It was a radio station that put us against each other. They had people vote to see what they liked the best and I appreciate that. But, they’re a wonderful group of people – Slug and the rest of the guys. I thank them so much for considering me.

Basically, get to Soundset.

Totally. If you’re from anywhere, get your ass to Soundset.

Does Tech N9ne have another collab in the works for Something Else?

Out on the road  for a string of live performances, Tech got the chatter going on Twitter as he confirmed a phone call with Limp Bizkit frontman, Fred Durst. We can only assume it’s for collaborative purposes, but who knows? Fans may recall Fred Durst previously reached out to the Kansas City King just before the release of All 6′s And 7′s.

Whatever it was, it seems to have Tech very excited.

After putting in his work at another legendary hip hop festival (Paid Dues), Tech N9ne is ready to take the stage amongst hip hop’s finest once more in a celebration of a music and culture that has brought together many throughout generations. With acts like Rakim, Big K.R.I.T., Black Hippy, Danny Brown, Wu-Tang Clan, Snow Tha Product, E-40 and Too Short, Common, Talib Kweli, Bone Thugs N Harmony, Tyler The Creator and a holographic performance by ODB and Eazy-E, this is a party you do not want to miss.

Tech N9ne appeared in the press conference for Rock The Bells 10 year anniversary announcement, where they broke the news that Wu-Tang Clan will be featuring a holographic performance of Ol Dirty Bastard, as well as Bone Thugs N Harmony’s performance featuring a holographic performance of their mentor Eazy-E. The stage is set for something historic.

Tech N9ne is cooking up Something Else with the first visual shot for his highly anticipated next album.

Adorned with beautiful women, cars, and a tour bus unlike anyone has ever seen, Tech took to the pavement to perform “Dwamn” from his upcoming album Something Else. The video has yet to be completed but with all the pictures surfacing from the shoot, we couldn’t help but share a first look from what is sure to be Tech N9ne’s sickest video yet.

When it comes to emcees other than Tech N9ne that are quick-spitting, hyper-intricate, and actually have something to say, it’s pretty much impossible to leave R.A. The Rugged Man’s name out of that short list, so it comes as no surprise that the hip hop Gods eventually brought the two together.

On “Holla Loo Yuh” from R.A.’s recently released Legends Never Die album, Tech and Krizz join R.A. in a three-and-a-half minute burst of quickfire lyricism, a style that all three emcees are comfortable enough in to call home.

In a recent drop for R.A.’s new album, Tech shares his thoughts on New York vet’s abilities as an emcee, his overall attitude, and what it was like to work with him.

Hip hop heads around the world can only sit back, enjoy Legends Never Die, and pray to the almighty hip hop Gods that the universe brings these two explosive emcees together for…we don’t know…like, 1,000 more tracks? That’d be great.

These days it seems that everyone can take a meaning out of anything, even if it’s just not true.

For the latest example of this phenomena we turn to Tech N9ne and the song “Rock-a-bye” from his upcoming album Something Else. The song was available for download by entering the Monster Energy Tech N9ne Fan Challenge (remember to have your copy of the Strange Music Independent Powerhouse Sampler handy when entering the contest) and has since been misunderstood as a diss to Lil Wayne. Why would Tech N9ne diss the guy that blew up his name by giving him an appearance on Tha Carter IV and blessed him with one of his most memorable verses on All 6′s and 7′s is anybody’s guess, but that didn’t stop people from speculating.

Tech N9ne went on Twitter to clear the air.

Now that the record is set, please enjoy the song for what it is. The only beef we’re about is on the grill.

The man who has produced hits for the likes of Snoop Dogg, Kurupt, 50 Cent, Mobb Deep, and more has a new target in sight: Tech N9ne.

West Coast producer FredWreck is a bonafide veteran, and has worked with pretty much everyone we could ever dream of working with, and in a recent tweet he confirmed that he’s headed to KCMO to begin a session with Tech N9ne!
