‘This Is Something They Can’t Control’ – Tech N9ne Talks Being Different
Tech N9ne’s long career in hip hop has been by plagued by negative perceptions and false accusations of “devil worshiping”, but thanks to overwhelming demand from the people, the Kansas City King is proving to be unstoppable in 2012.
Just before his recent stop in Phoenix,AZ for the “Hostile Takeover 2012″ Tour, Tech N9ne sat down with the Phoenix New Times for an interview regarding his recent work, the significance of independent record stores, and how his career has changed over the last few years.
Discussing what makes him so different, Tech N9ne went on to explain what separates him from the average emcee:
“I’m not the norm. How many black dudes do you see painting their faces and coming out with bishop robes on the stage? If you’ve ever seen a Tech N9ne show, it’s all choreographed. It has lights, substance. What I talk about is totally different than the norm. ‘Riot Maker’ has a rock feel, ‘Psycho Bitch’, all of those songs are totally to the left. If you’re not paying attention you’re not going to know what the hell I’m saying. A lot of my people don’t really want to hear that. A lot of them, I don’t want to say all of them, and when I say ‘my people’ I’m talking about black folk.”
Currently smashing cities on the record-breaking “Hostile Takeover 2012″ Tour, Tech N9ne is making sure everything he does is above and beyond the rest.
