Tech N9ne Talks Meeting Tupac, Tha Carter IV, And Major Labels [Interview]
From establishing Strange Music in Kansas City to stealing the spotlight on Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter IV, Tech N9ne has always done things his own way. The Midwest native has had his share of battles with the industry and now that he has redefined the independent game, the industry is looking to him for a piece.
Coming off the release of Welcome To Strangeland, Tech N9ne recently sat down with TaleTela.com for an extensive interview covering everything from his start in music to the raw emotion that drives the darkness behind albums like K.O.D. Reflecting on his time spent in Los Angeles, Tech N9ne discussed his initial meeting with Tupac Shakur:
“I just happened to be down in Atlanta at the Jack The Rapper Convention and he was down there just being seen. I hollered at him, he said some s**t to me. The next year I moved to LA to sign with Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis’ Perspective Records in ’93, and the first night I was in LA he was there. We talked in the club, and then I saw him again at a Robert Townsend show. He was doing his new single ‘I Get Around’ and we ended up fu**ing with the same chick. It’s crazy, he used to call my house asking for this chick that we both used to hang out with. We was just connected.”
Tech also spoke on meeting Lil Wayne and his guest appearance on Tha Carter IV as well as the reasons preventing him from giving in to major labels. Looking to take Strange Music worldwide, it’s clear that 2011 was just the start of Tech N9ne’s rise beyond the stars.
